Who We Are

About African Policy and Opinion Research – APOR
The African Policy and Opinion Research is a nonpartisan think tank that informs the world public, especially the African Diaspora and global policy makers, about the issues, attitudes and trends shaping and impacting Africa directly and the world indirectly. We conduct political, social and economic time series analysis, public opinion polling, demographic research, media content analysis and other data-driven community psychology research. We do not take nor support policy positions.

Our mission
We produce a groundwork of analytical facts that develops and improves the public dialogue and supports sound decision-making in relations to events and issues. We are non-governmental, nonprofit, nonpartisan and non-advocacy. We cherish and value independence, fairness, objectivity, accuracy, transparency, innovation, and facts.
Our research
We study African political, social, and economic policy; diplomacy and international cooperation, journalism and media; internet, science and technology; religion and public life; food security trends; cultural attitudes and migration trends; and African peace and security trends.

Our methods
We are dedicated to employing the most transparent and highest methodological standards—and to discovering and applying the newest leading edge research.
Our funding
We are supported not by any African government, but by contribution from all people who value our work and want to see a better Africa.

Our history
We started as a research project in 2014 called Why Is Africa So Backward in Governance? In January 2015, we established that the underlying reasons and answer to our research inquiry were greed, poor public education and the lack of leadership, accountability and transparency.  To address these underlying reasons, the idea of the African Policy and Opinion Research was born on January 15, 2015.
Although we use a variety of research, fact-finding and fact-checking methodologies in conducting our work, with focus on possibility-driven survey analysis and research, and far-reaching investing in critical events and issues shaping and impacting Africa and Africans, we also rely on and do content analysis of international and local media groups and advocacy institutions covering Africa.
